Ready, Set, Work!

Ready, Set, Work!

Ready, Set, Work! was written  specifically for individuals who are either beginning their careers or  who have been away from their careers for such time that they no longer  feel confident about their ability to understand and navigate easily  within their new work environment.  This is not a book about job skills  in the normal way we think of job skills.  That means I do not attempt  to teach primary job skills like oral and written communication,  analytical thinking, or any type of technical skills one might need for  any given job.  There are many wonderful books and training manuals in  these areas that do much better justice to those topics than I could  ever hope to.  In addition, this book is not about conducting a job  search.  The assumption is that by the time you read this, you already  have already conducted your job search, have survived the application  and interview process and are on your way to your job, and in many  cases, your first job.  The information here is not meant to take the  place of the new employee orientation offered by most private and public  employers.  New employee orientation is typically geared to a specific  employer and describes the mission, goals, policies, programs, and  services offered by that organization.  New employee orientation is  invaluable in giving new employees information that enables them to at  least minimally begin to feel like a part of that particular  organization.  The specific nature of the training means that the  information provided is normally not readily transferable to other  employers and therefore must generally be repeated whenever you change  employers.
